Student Learning Assessments (SLAs)
are digital tests administered at the beginning of the school year in Grade 3. They assess outcomes related to literacy and numeracy in language arts and mathematics in Alberta’s current Grade 2 provincial programs of study.
is an online literacy resource that pairs classic video storybooks from Weston Woods with related nonfiction from Children’s Press and other trusted Scholastic imprints. It is free on the LearnAB website using your username and password.
has grade-level lessons that are incorporated into areas such as math and language arts while introducing basic computer skills. Comprehensive Literacy Guides K-6
On behalf of ARPDC, a large cohort of literacy leaders from the greater Edmonton area (ERLC) collaboratively developed a series of Elementary Literacy Guides in 2016-17 to support teachers, administrators, learning coaches and other educational staff.
is an online resource, free on the LearnAB website using your username and password, that leverages the award-winning True Books content to help students hone literacy skills, build knowledge of subject-area content, and cultivate 21st Century Skills through the inquiry process. All of the True Book titles are supported with a deep and diverse reservoir of related content and primary sources featuring videos, audio, images, and text.
Sesame Street’s Online Home
Younger children will love everything about Sesame Street’s online home. They can choose from hundreds of the show’s video clips and play games that help them learn letters, animal sounds, rhymes, colors and more.
is an online collection of TumbleBooks animated, talking picture books which teach kids the joy of reading in a format they’ll love. TumbleBooks are created by adding animation, sound, music and narration to existing picture books in order to produce an electronic picture book which you can read or have read to you. View it free through the Cold Lake Public Library.
is an educational website that provides interactive content to help children with the fundamentals of learning: reading, basic math, shapes, and phonics.
National Geographic Kids
Watch animal cameras, learn interesting tidbits about animals, see and share photos of nature, learn about different countries and try science experiments. These activities don’t even begin to scratch the surface of the National Geographic Kids website. There’s even a “Little Kids” section for the younger explorers in your house.

Find all of your favourite PBS characters, each with learning games for kids to play: Clifford, Curious George, SuperWhy, The Cat in the Hat, and lots more.
TIME for Kids
From the publishers of TIME magazine, TIME for Kids is loaded with interesting articles, photos, and videos. Politics, the environment, entertainment, sports, and health are just some of the topics covered. TIME for Kids isn’t as interactive as most of the other website on this list of educational websites for kids, but the site does tackle subjects that are in the news now while being written for an audience of children.

Learn Alberta's Online Reference Centre (ORC) licenses digital resources for use in Alberta K-12 classrooms at NO COST to the school or district. The ORC is a source of vetted online reference resources that support the K-12 curriculum. In addition, all of the ORC resources are accessible anytime, from anywhere with an Internet connection.

T4T Courses are secure learning and teaching materials developed by Alberta Education for use by students and teachers in Alberta. These distributed learning resources include student courses, assignments, teacher resources, and answer keys for grades one to twelve. Teachers are encouraged to use these resources in the development of their own lessons and in preparing for upcoming courses. These provincially authorized resources are developed by the Distributed Learning Branch of Alberta Education.
